Cognitive Apprenticeship
Cognitive Apprenticeship is a paedagogical methodology developed in 1989 by Collins, Brown and Newman.
Learning takes place within a social context, deep-seated into an authentic work situation. Meanwhile a continuous exchange between teacher and student, or master and apprentice, happens.
The apprentice gathers problem solving strategies from the expert by the active involvement in the problem solving. At the same time, domain specific terminology and the way to reflect about the subject matter is internalized.

Learning from the Best!
But what does that mean in practice?
- In todays professional life, everybody has to constantly gather domain specific knowledge. We have to know terms, concepts, facts and practices in order to manage domain specific problems.
- A "personal expert" should be available all the time and identiy our knowledge and learning demand.
This also means:
Expert knowledge is fine grained and wellßconnected, is sound standing and flexible, is comprehensible and changeable.
And available for erverybody all the time!
